Region – Mark your summer and fall calendar for five unique road races, each with its own special challenge and benefiting local charities.

The 5K Spirit of Hudson Road Race with free Mighty Mite Marathon for kids 2 – 6 will be held Saturday, June 11, at 8:30 a.m. The race will start at 5 Houghton St. (around the corner from Medusa Brewing Co.) in Hudson. The race is part of the Hudson Community Festival; 100 percent of the proceeds go to the Elks scholarship fund. USA Track & Field (USATF) certified/walkers welcome/medal awards.

MDCA yard and bake sale June 11

The Marlborough Community Development Authority (MCDA) Tenants Association will hold a yard and bake sale Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 250 Main St. (the old senior center). The event will be held in the outside courtyard or indoors if it rains. There is ample parking behind the building in the Windsor Street parking lot.

British WWI veteran recognized in Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury – During Memorial Day weekend, a British veteran buried in the World War I lot of Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury was recognized May 29 with his country’s flag placed at his grave. Sgt. Alexander J. MacIsaac served in the 1st West Lancashire Regiment, Royal Field Artillery.

Shrewsbury remembers fallen veterans despite rain

Shrewsbury – Despite a rainy morning May 30, Shrewsbury residents and visitors remembered fallen veterans with the town’s annual Memorial Day parade.

Selectmen Board Chair Maurice DePalo welcomed parade participants and spectators at the Soldier’s Statue. Participating in the parade were representatives of local and visiting veterans’ groups, Shrewsbury police and fire departments, elected officials and Scout troops.
