Obit Merle FoyeGrafton – Merle Foye, 91, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 following a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Sandra (Houlden) Foye; his sons, Edward M. Foye and Thomas W. Foye; daughter, Marilyn Foye Tebo; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving of seven siblings who all predeceased him.

Merle was born June 26, 1924 in Belmont, Maine, son of the late Eva (Phippin) and Edward K. Foye. His early years were spent in Maine on his family’s farm before moving to Hopkinton. He lived in Hopkinton with his former wife, Marilyn King Foye, for 22 years.

He was a carpenter for many years in the Westborough/Shrewsbury area, building over 100 homes. Sandra and Merle met in 1965 and were married in 1969 and lived briefly in Hopkinton before moving to Grafton in 1976.

He bought his first tractor, a Ford 8N, used on Houlden Farm, where he and Sandra, Ruth and Howard worked together for some years.

He loved golfing, hunting in Maine, fishing and snowmobiling. He was a past member of the Hopkinton Rod & Gun. He was a huge Red Sox and Patriots fan.

All are welcome to gather with Merle’s family for a remembrance service Saturday, May 7, at 7 p.m., at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton. Burial will be private at his family’s convenience.
