Northborough – The visiting Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks defeated the Shrewsbury High School Colonials baseball team on May 8 by a score of 4-1 in a game that stretched to 9 innings. The game was a home game for Shrewsbury, and was played at the New England Baseball Complex.
Shrewsbury’s Nick Martin led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple, and scored on a single by Dillon Zona. Algonquin evened the score in the top of the fifth when Owen Lyons scored on RBI single by Ross Grasso. The game remained tied until Justin O’Connell led off the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run to left field. Grasso double added 2 insurance runs.
Matt Geoffrion struck out 5 over 7 innings, and Nolan Kessinger came on to pitch the last two frames to earn the win. Dan McManus pitched into the ninth inning for Shrewsbury before Adam Twitchell came in for the final two outs.
Algonquin improves to 7-4 on the season with the win while Shrewsbury falls to 9-3.
