Hudson – Maria B. (Braga) Chaves, 87, of Hudson, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Memorial Campus in Worcester. She was the beloved wife of 43 years to the late Antonio R. Chaves, who died in 1993.

Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Jose and Lina (Periera) Braga. She resided in Portugal until immigrating to Hudson in 1957.

She was an employee of Thomas Taylor and Son’s for many years, and also held several other jobs locally. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Maria took great pride in caring for her home and raising her family in Hudson. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her loving family, especially later with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished the opportunity to help raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The kindness in her heart and loving smile will be forever missed, but not forgotten.

She is survived by her children, Maria L. Chaves of Hudson, Inez Braga of Hudson, Emanuel Chaves and his wife Janet of Templeton, Margaret DePaolo and her husband Jeff of Nashua, N.H., and Christine Disko and her husband Bryan of Manchester, N.H. She was predeceased by her daughter, Genevieve Chaves, in 1957. She is also survived by her brother, John DeBraga of Hudson; her 14 loving grandchildren; 20 adoring great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ines Moreira, Manuel Braga and Serafim DeBraga.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 13, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Thursday, May 12, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
