Northborough – The visiting St. John’s High School Pioneers baseball team defeated the Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks by a score of 3-1 in a game played May 17.
The game was scoreless until St. John’s Jake Rosen hit a two-out bases loaded triple in the top of the fifth inning, accounting for all of St. John’s scoring. Algonquin followed with one run in the bottom of the frame after Collin Mitchell scored as Nolan Kessinger hit a triple to center field, but their rally fell short.
Matt Stansky pitched a complete game for St. John’s allowing 5 hits and striking out 6, earning the win. Algonquin’s Charles Gallagher also pitched a complete game, allowing 5 hits and striking out 2.
St. John’s improves to 13-2 on the season, while Algonquin falls to 11-5.
