Marlborough veterans Touchette and Page remembered on Memorial Day

Marlborough – Although rainy weather caused cancellation of the city’s 150th annual Memorial Day Parade, coordinator Wayne Grant shared a message about the two late Marlborough veterans – Robert Touchette and Robert “Bob” Page – for whom the parade was dedicated to this year.

Northborough pays tribute to fallen veterans

Northborough – Inclement weather May 30 cleared in time for Northborough residents and visitors to pay tribute to fallen veterans with the town’s annual Memorial Day parade. Stops were made at four monuments along the parade route.

‘Grease’ is theme for Corridor Nine annual meeting celebration

Region – Nearly 200 business and community leaders attended the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce “Grease Inspired” annual meeting celebration breakfast held May 19 at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston. The chamber honored six remarkable members, recognized members with significant milestone anniversaries as stakeholders of the organization, and introduced the newly elected officers and board of directors for 2016-17.

SpencerBANK and Southbridge Savings Bank merger of holding companies approved

Region – SpencerBANK, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Spencer MHC and Southbridge Savings Bank, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Green Valley Bancorp, MHC, have agreed to combine their two mutual holding companies under the name SSB Community Bancorp MHC. Spencer Mid-tier Holding Company and Green Valley Bancorp, Inc., the subsidiary mid-tier holding companies of Spencer MHC and Green Valley Bancorp, MHC, respectively, will also combine under the name SSB Community Bancorp Inc. in connection with the merger. The merger is expected to be completed on May 31, 2016.

Central One Federal Credit Union wins ‘Best Community Bank’ honors

Central One Federal Credit Union received the title of “Best Community Bank” for its Westborough and Shrewsbury branches, and honorable mention for its Northborough branch.

Flaherty Physical Therapy now open in Northborough

UMass Medical School to hold women’s health event

Worcester – On Saturday, June 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., UMass Medical School, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester will be hosting a Women’s Health & Wellness Event. Offerings will include free health screenings, and health and wellness presentations. Free parking and shuttle services will be available. Childcare will also be available at no cost.

Avidia Bank initiates wellness programs for employees

Region – Avidia Bank, a $1.3 billion community bank based in Hudson, has made considerable strides regarding its employees’ overall wellness. During the beginning of 2016, the Human Resources Department held a “Biggest Loser” competition where they asked employees to create teams and help each other reach their weight loss goals over the course of three months. They had 76 participants which is 37 percent of the bank’s employees. Overall, employees who participated lost a total of 574.3 pounds or 7.5 pounds per participant.
