Marlborough – State Sen. Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) is helping 350Massachusetts (350Mass) educate residents statewide on climate/energy issues and other climate change legislation currently under discussion at the Statehouse. At the invitation of City Councilor David Doucette, he spoke at a gathering at the First Baptist Church in Marlborough June 2, praising Doucette and other members of the group for their dedication to educating people on the importance of climate change.
“It is an exciting time for the environmental movement in Mass. The accomplishments of the Patrick era, including the global warning solutions act of 2008 (GWSA) and the Green Communities Acts, have resulted in Mass. becoming a national leader in energy efficiency programs and renewable energy generation,” said Eldridge.
“The bad news is that the carbon pricing bill is unlikely to be brought to the floor for a vote because it would not pass in the House or the Senate. Despite the facts that the bill prices carbon emissions with a revenue neutral fee and that the bill has 77 co-sponsors, the anti-tax environment that currently prevails would prevent passage of the bill,” he stated.
Doucette is an active member of 350Mass, which is part of 350.org, a global network active in more than 188 countries.
