Obit Sister Rita BarretteMarlborough – Sister Rita Barrette, (Sister Lucien Marie), a Sister of St. Anne, died Friday, June 24, 2016 at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough. She was in the 69th year of her vowed religious life.

She was a daughter of Thomas and Rose-Anna (Dupras) of Woonsocket, R.I. She completed her early education at St. Ann’s and St. Clare High School in that city. She held at BA degree in Education from Anna Maria College and an M.A. degree in Sacred Science from Providence College in Rhode Island.

Sister Rita joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec, Canada and pronounced vows there. She began her long and successful teaching career teaching business courses in private schools sponsored by the Congregation in Quebec. She returned to the United States and taught in High Schools in Holyoke and at the former St. Anne Academy in Marlborough. She also served in local community leadership for the Sisters. After retiring from teaching, Sister Rita served in the finance offices of Anna Maria College, at the former St. Anne Montessori School, and at St. Anne Residence, both in Marlborough, until ill health forced her to retire from more active ministry.

Sister Rita was predeceased by her three sisters and her brother. In addition to the Sisters of St. Anne, she is mourned by her nieces and nephews, and remembered by her colleagues in education and in finance.

There will be viewing Tuesday, June 28, from 9-10:30 a.m., in the St. Anne Convent chapel, followed by her funeral Mass. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery of Marlborough. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough.
