Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Hudson – Leonard G. Cushman, 84, of Wilton, N.H., former longtime resident of Hudson, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving family, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, N.H. Leonard was the beloved husband of 61 years to the late Phyllis M. (Backhoff) Cushman, who died in 2014.

He leaves his four children, Linda Raymond and her husband Joseph of Wilton, N.H., Charles Cushman and his wife Crystal of Rockhill, S.C., Kathryn Cushman of Hollis, Maine, and Phillip Cushman of Oak Harbor, Wash. He is also survived by his four loving grandchildren, Alex Cushman of Smyrna, Tenn., Garrett Cushman of Murfressboro, Tenn., Amy DeCiero of Webster, and Brian DeCiero of Lancaster, along with his three step-sisters and two step-brothers.

Leonard was born in Lynn, son of the late Elmer and Angeline (Castonia) Cushman. He was raised in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, where he attended local schools. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. States Navy until being honorably discharged in 1954. He resided in Hudson since 1965, until most recently moving to Wilton, N.H. in 2014.

He spent 35 years as an electrical engineer with the Raytheon Co. until his retirement. Following his retirement, he enjoyed teaching woodworking at the Hudson Youth Center, was Cub Master for the Hudson Boy Scouts Pack 3 for 40-plus years, was a former member of Christ the King Parish in Hudson, and was member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Leonard had many interests throughout his life, but woodworking was his passion. He enjoyed collecting Native American memorabilia and truly enjoyed his association with the Cub Scouts. Most of all, he looked forward to spending time with his family, especially later with his grandchildren. He cherished his 61 years of marriage to his wife Phyllis and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

A funeral service and celebration of Leonard’s life will be held Saturday, July 9, at 12 p.m., in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson (www.tighehamilton.com). Burial services will be held privately at a later in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours will be held Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leonard may be made to the Rose Haven Assisted Living Home, 8 Jennifer Dr., Merrimack, NH 03054.
