Hudson – Terezinha Sousa, 84, of Hudson, died Thursday, July 14, 2016 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose da Rocha Alves.
Terezinha was born in Terceira, the Azores, daughter of the late Manuel Sousa and Maria de Lurdes Ferreira. She was raised in Portugal and resided there until immigrating to the United States in 1978.
She was employed as a Machine Operator for Jo-An Fabrics for many years. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.
Terezinha loved to cook traditional Portuguese food, shopping and birthday parties and never forgot a birthday. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially later with her loving grandchildren and adoring great grandchildren. Her caring and loving spirit will be cherished by all who loved and knew her.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Alves and his fiancé Cidalia Almeida; her daughters, Maria Fatima Hopler and her late husband Steve Hopler of New Jersey, Maria de Lurdes Furtado and her husband Antonio Furtado of Portugal, and Maria Alice Alves of Portugal; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Odete Alcaraz, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, July 19 at Saint Michael’s Church of Hudson, followed by burial at Forestvale Cemetery.
