Mayor appoints new building commissioner

Marlborough – Douglas Scott of Barre, presently serving as the city’s interim building commissioner, has been appointed by Mayor Arthur Vigeant to fill the position for a three-year term. He asked city councilors to approve his recommendation at the July 25 meeting.

Financing again a topic for selectmen

Shrewsbury – On July 26, Carolyn Marcotte, Shrewsbury town collector and treasurer, reviewed for the selectmen permanent and temporary financing for the new library and for school heating system upgrades. She reported that the town had obtained a most favorable average interest rate of just 2.34 percent on the loans. The library has obtained permanent financing and there had been five bidders for both the library and schools.

Selectmen vote to appeal 2017 storm water management regulations

Shrewsbury – At their July 26 meeting, the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen discussed whether to file an appeal to the allegedly onerous and overly expensive Massachusetts Small MS4 General Permit regulations outlining requirements for cities’ and towns’ storm water management. The single-spaced, 42-page directive is a result of a process begun 10 years ago.

River’s Edge Arts Alliance asks members to find solutions to $45,000 deficit

Hudson – Facing a $45,000 budget deficit, leaders of The River’s Edge Arts Alliance said that the group could be needing reorganization in order to cut costs and avoid future shortfalls. As they try to reorganize, the Board of Directors has asked Arts Alliance members for help.

River’s Edge Chorale welcomes new director

Hudson – John Anthony Volpe completed his first season this past spring as director of the River’s Edge Chorale, a music program of the Hudson-based River’s Edge Arts Alliance (REAA).

He began leading the group of over 30 singers after its founding director Paul Johnson moved to Cape Cod. Volpe felt comfortable throughout his first chorale rehearsal process from April to mid-June.
