Westborough – The Rotary Club of Westborough, in conjunction with Sun Multisport, is sponsoring the Seventh Annual Westborough Rotary Sprint Triathlon Sunday, Aug. 14. With three multi-sport divisions, this event is designed for all ages and abilities.

The triathlon takes place at the former Westborough State Hospital off of Lyman Street in Westborough. The road triathlon begins with a quarter mile swim in Lake Chauncy. After the swim, athletes will ride their bikes over a 14-mile loop that travels the roads of Westborough, Northborough, Marlborough and Southborough. The event finishes with a three-mile run along a combination of scenic off-road trails in the woods surrounding Lake Chauncy and on local roads.

Two additional course options are also available. The Off Road Triathlon features the same quarter-mile swim and three-mile run as the “road” triathlon, but finishes with a five to six mile off-road bike course on scenic trails surrounding Lake Chauncy.  A “Splash & Dash” is offered for athletes that want to skip the bike segment altogether. This option includes the Lake Chauncy swim followed by the three-mile run.

When registering, participants choose from a number of categories from beginner to elite, or by age group.  Athletes must be at least 13 years old as of race day in order to register.  The Westborough Rotary Triathlon is a USA Triathlon certified event.  For more information, or to register, visit http://www.westboroughrotary.org.

Sponsors for the event include Central One Federal Credit Union, Roche Brothers, the Westboro Swim & Tennis Club, Avidia Bank, Curry Printing and Ball Financial Services.
