Obit Edward SmithNorthborough – Edward P. Smith, 68, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016 at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after being admitted with breathing problems.

He leaves his devoted wife of nearly 49 years, Gail (Kidder) Smith; his loving children, Edward Smith Jr. and his wife Jean of Virginia and Bonnie Smith of Northborough; five beloved grandchildren and a great-grandson; his siblings, Patricia Celorier, David Smith, Diane Bent and Eileen Nelson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Walter Smith, Leroy Smith, and Paul Smith.

Born in Framingham, he was the son of Leroy H. and Bertha (Tucy) Smith and lived in Northborough since 1978.

Ed was a self-employed Bathfitter franchisee who worked in Worcester County until his retirement. He was a one-time manager at North Star Youth Forum in Westborough and worked there from the early 1980s through 2000. He loved hockey, Patriots football, and NASCAR.

Ed took many memorable trips with his grandchildren to Thompson Speedway for Thursday Night Thunder. He will always be remembered for his big heart and wonderful sense of humor.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Aug. 7, from 1-4 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. Ed’s funeral will take place in the funeral home Monday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. Burial is private.
