Shrewsbury – There are a number of events leading up to the Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival’s main weekend, Saturday, Sept 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25. Three of those events – A Romantic Splendor Concert, the Paw Spa Pet Festival and Kids’ Fun Run/Walk, will take place on the prior weekend.

 

Saturday, Sept. 18

Arts on the Green will present the Romantic Splendor Concert Saturday, Sept. 18 at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, 19 Church Rd. Pianist and organist Malcolm Halliday, French hornist Clark Matthews and tenor Stanley Wilson will present wide ranging music by Romantic masters including Schumann’s passionate “Adagio and Allegro” and Gliere’s “Four Pieces, op. 35 for horn and piano,” as well as Schubert’s immortal “Auf dem Strom” with all three performers.

The show starts at 7 p.m. and is free but donations are welcome. Arts on the Green is a community outreach of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury.

 

Sunday, Sept. 19

The Paw Spa, a Shrewsbury-based dog and cat grooming salon, will host the Paw Spa Festival at SAC Park, 438 Lake St, Sunday, Sept. 19 from 12-4 p.m. Families and their dogs are invited to enjoy in the day’s fun which will include an agility course, Adoptable Pet Parade, Photo Booth, Best of Awards, Police K-9 Show, “Ask a Vet”, vendor booths, pet caricature, raffles and food.

    Twenty percent of the funds raised at the Paw Spa Festival will be donated to two local nonprofit no- kill animal shelters, SweetPea for Animals and Broken Tail Rescue.

A Kids Fun Run/Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 19 at Jordan Pond from 1-2 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to participate (the walk will be staggered based on age groups). The cost is $5 if registered by Saturday, Sept. 10 and $10 on the day of the event. Contact  Jenn Luke at 508-954-4509 or [email protected] for more information or to register.

The course is approximately ½ mile and starts near the Calvin Coolidge Elementary School, 1 Florence St. The event is organized by the Coolidge School PTO and White City Dunkin’ Donuts.
