Northborough: Art workshops to be offered at Northborough Free Library

25

Northborough – “Fall for Art” at the Northborough Free Library is a series of beginner workshops for adults designed to nurture your creative side.  Learn to play the ukulele, paint with pastels, draw a Zentangle, or craft with glass or thread.  Art is good for you.  Picasso noted that “art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.”  Sign-up for one or more workshops and let your inner artist shine.

Play the Ukulele.  Monday, Sept. 12, 6:30 – 8 p.m. Try your hand at performance art by playing the ukulele! Musician Janet Stepanek will introduce us to this small, cute, portable and fun instrument that makes everyone happy.  No experience needed. This workshop includes a lesson, a strum-along and a Q & A.  Ukuleles provided, or bring your own. Registration is required. Free.

Glass Fusing.  Tuesday, Sept. 20, 6:30 – 8 p.m. Design and decorate a glass tile using a variety of colored glass of different sizes and shapes. The staff at ClayTime in Shrewsbury will heat your design in a kiln turning your creation into a one-of-a-kind glass fused night light. All tools and materials provided.  Registration required. A fee of $10 collected on the night of the workshop is required to participate.

    Learn to Tie a Fly. Tuesday, Oct. 18 AND Thursday, Oct. 20, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Art and science meet when designing and tying artificial flies that replicate prey in order to catch fish.  Over the course of this two evening workshop, Jim Lagacy from MassWildLife and Todd Girard from the Charlton Conservation Commission share their passion and skill in showing you how to tie beautiful, functional flies for catching fish (or to admire).  Beginners only, please.  Registration required. You must attend both evenings.  Free.

    Zentangle.  Saturday, Oct. 22, 2:30 – 5 p.m.

Practice the meditative art of Zentangle where you will create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. Back by popular demand, Pam Lisak leads this workshop featuring white pen on black tiles. Registration required. A fee of $5 collected on the day of the workshop is required to participate.

    Pastel Painting.  Saturday, Nov. 19, 3 – 5 p.m.

Westborough artist Janet Schwartz returns to the Northborough Free Library with her inspiring and unique approach to art instruction. Working with pastels, you will create a painting by observing a series of images that become more and more in-focus turning the initial abstract into something familiar.  Find out how these simple techniques release your inner artist. Registration required. A fee of $10 collected on the day of the workshop is required to participate.

Fall for Art is sponsored by the Friends of the Northborough Free Library and is open to adults ages 18 and up.
