Hudson – Joan H. (Helsmoortel) Leahy, 87, of Hudson, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. She was the beloved wife of 33 years to the late Donald J. Leahy, who died in 1992.

Joan was born and raised in Union City, N.J., daughter of the late Leopold M. and Ruth A. (Spengler) Helsmoortel.

She was employed as an Administrative Assistant to the CFO by the TJX Company of Framingham for 27-plus years until her retirement.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society and member of the Hudson Elk’s Emblem Club. She spent many years volunteering at the Joseph L. Mulready Elementary School in Hudson, and was an active member of the Hudson Senior Center, serving also as its secretary for many years. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Joan enjoyed reading, gardening, sudoko puzzles and caring for her home in her spare time. She always looked forward to playing Mah-Jong with her friends at the senior center. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family, especially later with her grandchildren. Her giving and loving spirit will be cherished and remembered by all who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Lauren R. Dutney of Hudson, and her son, Tom Leahy of Hudson (wife Lori “Penniman” Leahy), and was predeceased by her son, Mark Leahy, in 1969. She also leaves her four loving grandchildren, J.D. Dutney, Ryan Leahy, Jared Leahy and Megan Leahy, all of Hudson.

A funeral service and celebration of life will be held Saturday Oct. 1, at 11 a.m., in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson (www.tighehamilton.com).  Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery of Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Friday, Sept. 30, from 4-7 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan may be made to the Miriam Boyd Parlin Residence, 10 Green Way, Wayland, MA 01778.
