Northborough – The Northboro Youth Basketball Association (NYBA) recently upgraded the basketball backboards and rims at Ellsworth-McAfee Park in partnership with the town Recreation Department and Department of Public Works. NYBA hosts a kids’ summer skills development program at the park and other outdoor courts.
Over the past three years, the NYBA has worked with the town, schools and Community Preservation Committee (CPC) to update all the outdoor courts at the Fannie E. Proctor, Marguerite E. Peaslee and Marion E. Zeh elementary schools, as well as the four courts at Robert E. Melican Middle School.
“The NYBA board recognized that the outdoor courts at our schools and Ellsworth-McAfee Park were really in need of an upgrade,” NYBA President Tom Spataro said. “The kids need to have nice, safe courts to play basketball to keep them excited and playing basketball. Updating the surface with new painted courts gives a safe surface to play outdoor basketball. The latest hoops offer an attractive place for our kids to play. We worked with CPC and the town to fund these projects.”
The NYBA mission is to promote, organize and supervise amateur basketball competition for players in grades 1-8 who are residents of Northborough. Registration for its upcoming winter season is now open at www.NorthboroYouthBasketball.org.
“It’s great to see the kids, parents, and young adults playing more on the renovated courts,” Spataro noted.
