obit-frank-a-smith-srHudson – Frank A. Smith Sr., 88, of Hudson, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 at Sudbury Pines Extended Care. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth E. (Wikstrom) Smith.

Frank was born and raised in Marlborough, son of the late Adelbert F. and Violet (Drew) Smith. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Marlborough High School. He had resided in Hudson for the past 62 years and was proud to serve the community from 1961 to 1994 as a Hudson Police Officer. He was a dedicated Mason member for 50 years and also a member of the Shriner’s organization.

Frank always cherished spending time with his family, especially later with his loving grandchildren and adoring great grandchildren who fondly referred to him as “The Teddy Bear Grandpa” for his holiday and special occasion gifting of Teddy Bears. He truly looked forward to boating on Lake Boon and his occasional boating trips to the ocean. He enjoyed overnight visits to Boston where he and Ruth would attend a good theatre event. In his retirement, wood working became a passionate hobby for Frank. He meant so much to all who loved and knew him and will be truly missed.

He leaves his children, Robert Smith and his wife Patsy of Pembroke, Ricky Smith and his wife Audry of Hudson, Robin Messer of Hudson, David Gill and his wife Samy of Hudson, Jonathan Gill of Boylston, Jeffrey Gill and his wife Christine of Berlin, Frank A. Smith Jr. of Danvers, and Jason Smith of Maynard and was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Gill. He is also survived by his two brothers, Arthur and Dexter Smith, both of Marlborough; his 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren along with his many nieces and nephews.

A service and celebration of Frank’s life was held Oct. 9 at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. of Hudson. Burial services will be held privately at a later date.
