Shrewsbury – John G. Howard, 58, of Shrewsbury, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 after a long battle with type 1 diabetes and its complications. He was born in Waltham, the son of the late William and Marjorie L. Howard and lived in Marlborough and Shrewsbury most of his life.

John attended school in Framingham, Raynham and Marlborough.

He worked for Gino’s Inc., where he rose through the ranks into management.  He was promoted to a Regional Training Manager when the company decided to downsize and move to the southern states.  John stayed in the area and went to work for the Raytheon Corp., where he worked for 32 years as a Security Officer with the elite Raytheon Guard Force. John served as an Executive Officer of the Raytheon Guards Union for many years.

He was very fortunate to have many friends in life and at work, including his two closest, Richard Freitas and Jeff Carlman. The three were inseparable. His friends at work included Michael Nava and his girlfriend Liz, Bobby Spallino and his wife Roz, Richard Eager and his wife Jean, Stephen Averett and his wife Beth, Lt. Colonel Ralph Asplund and his wife Cheryl. He was grateful to call many people “friend.”

John was an avid sports fan and especially loved his NE Patriots.

He is survived by a brother, James A. Howard and his wife Susan of Naples, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Kate Howard of N. Waterboro, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, William S. and Wayne M. Howard.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will be at a later date. Visiting hours at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com) will take place Tuesday morning, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the Mass.
