Northborough – The visiting top-ranked St. John’s Pioneers football team stormed past the Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks by a score of 41-14, on a cold, damp evening, in the last game of the regular season Oct. 29.
St. John’s built a 21-0 lead on touchdown runs by Steven Bucciaglia and Michael Bernard, and a pass to Nick Pallotta, before Algonquin got on the board with a touchdown pass from Ryan Barry to Colin Robinson
St. John’s scored twice more in the third quarter, on a pass from Bucciaglia to Zach Pedone and a run by Tom Feraco.
Alec Looby scored Algonquin’s second touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run, while St. John’s Bernard closed out the scoring with this second TD run of the game.
With the win, St. John’s finishes the regular season with a 6-2 record and earns the top seed in the Central Mass. Division 2 playoffs, and will host fourth- seed Shrewsbury on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2:30 p.m. Despite the loss, Algonquin finishes the regular season with a 6-3 record and earns the third seed. They will be travelling to Wachusett for their playoff game, which will be held Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
