Westborough – Thirty-six teams of three players figuratively donned their thinking caps Oct. 24 at the DoubleTree by Hilton as they challenged themselves for the ninth annual Trivia Bee, the primary fundraiser of the Westborough Education Foundation (WEF). The real winners were Westborough students because WEF has provided $340,000 in grants in its 20-year history.
After six tie-breaking questions were posed to two teams, the Trivia Bee Champions trophy was awarded to Westborough High School (WHS) class of 2017 teammates Ben Hopkinson, Tom Jacob and Connor Schoen. Their team was sponsored by E.L. Harvey & Sons. Good-naturedly battling with the champs to the end were the EMSEAL Joint Systems teammates Jody and Lester Hensley and Keith Rauseo.
Awarded Best Costumes were the Siloam Lodge of Masons teammates Jeff Bartee, Mike Grim and Ed Newton III. Deemed Most Spirited was the team sponsored by Westborough Newcomers with WHS Student Council members Natalie Baillargeon, Christina Bi and Vikram Mathew.
Also representing WHS were its Honor String Quartet and a cappella group Don’t Panic performing beforehand, and Redshift 4048 conducting robotics demonstrations during intermission. Westborough public schools physical education teacher Molly Brogan led the kids’ trivia between rounds.
Once again judging the evening’s antics were Westborough community leaders Library Director Maureen Ambrosino, Police Chief Alan Gordon and retired Superintendent of Schools Marianne O’Connor. Town Moderator John Arnold served as master of ceremonies.
