Shrewsbury – As a way to thank local veterans, Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury is proud to announce that it will be hosting a free Dental Day for veterans on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The clinic will be overseen by Dr. Mehdi Karimipour (known as Dr. Mehdi) and his wife, Dr. YiChen (Jenn) Wei, who both joined Modern Dentistry and Dr. Todd Pizzi this past summer. Both doctors have extensive experience and years of dental specialty training. In addition, Dr. Mehdi has trained at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., which has given him an intimate perspective on the needs of those who have served in the military.
“I know that sometimes dental needs are the last thing our veterans want to deal with, many times for financial reasons,” he added. “But having good dental health is so important. There are many preventive things that can be done that can eliminate or reduce future problems. We know that proactive care now will prevent more serious problems in the future.”
On the day of the clinic, Modern Dentistry’s staff will volunteer to perform exams, take necessary x-rays, do extractions, basic denture repair, and do screenings for oral cancer all at no charge.
Although the two doctors are new to the practice, which has been in Shrewsbury for the last 50 years, they are thrilled with being part of the community, which they say has welcomed them with open arms.
“This community has been so welcoming to us – we feel this is a way to give back,” Dr. Wei said. “We feel fortunate and humbled to be able to offer our expertise to these courageous men and women who have given so much to our country.”
The clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a first come, first served basis. Participants should bring a VA ID or official document DD-214.
