Shrewsbury – Saint Mary School in Shrewsbury recently welcomed a visit from seven AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students, Principal Dr. Siobhan Dennis (Saint Mary School Class of 1991), and teacher Lisa Carignan from Columbus Park School in Worcester. AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

Through a partnership with the Saint Mary School Service Club, the AVID students collaborated on a gently used book drive so that each student at Columbus Park would receive a wrapped book just in time for the Christmas break. Thanks to the generous response from the Saint Mary families, students collected over 1,601 books to be shared with the friends at Columbus Park School. The Columbus Park students enjoyed a tour of the school and conversations about service before loading over 20 boxes of books.
