Hudson – Jose Braga Sousa, 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017. He was born in Santa Maria, Azores, the son of the late Antonio Joaquim Sousa and Maria Da Conceicao Braga.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Maria Nascimento Costa Sousa; 12 children, Antonio Sousa, Maria Lurdes Tebo, Jose Sousa, Isabel Chaves, Joao Sousa, Manuel Sousa, Norberto Sousa, Paulina Sousa, Luis Sousa, Rosa Sousa, Jorge Sousa, and David Sousa; his sisters, Maria Helena Sousa Costa, and Maria Rosa Braga; his brother, Joao Braga; daughters-in-law; sons-in-law; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Da Gloria Sousa Costa, and his brother, Antonio Sousa Braga.
He was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club, the Holy Ghost Society, and Treasurer of the Hudson Portuguese Band. His passions were traveling to Santa Maria, Acores, fishing, working his grapevines, and carpentry.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Sunday, Jan. 29, from 3-6 p.m., in the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 30, at 9 a.m., with a Mass at St. Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Hudson.
