Algonquin hosts state Division 2 wrestling tournament

Northborough – Algonquin Regional High School hosted high school wrestlers from throughout Massachusetts for the State Division 2 Wrestling tournament held over two days Feb. 17-18.  Over 400 individual matches took place to decide the winners in 14 different weight classes.

Algonquin placed three wrestlers on the podium, with Drew Cozzolino (138) and Joe Vencile (285) each taking second place and Bryce Finnegan (145) taking third.

Marlborough had four wrestlers finish on the podium, with Nate Stemple (150) taking fifth, Wilson Ordonez (126) and JV Borges (220) taking sixth and Noah Wilcox (132) taking seventh place.

Elsewhere around the state, Owen Roche placed seventh in the 132 pound weight class at the Division 1 State finals held at Methuen High School and Marlborough’s Advanced Math and Science Academy had three wrestlers place in the Division 3 finals held at Wakefield High School.  Mason Bradford (285) took fifth place, Harry Brooks (106) took sixth place and Gavin Puchulu (138) took eighth.
