Region – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan released this statement today:

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan has announced that Steven Perez, 27, of Marlborough, was arraigned today in Ayer District Court and charged with assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license, discharging a firearm near a highway, receiving stolen property over $250, leaving the scene of property damage and a marked lanes violation in connection with an alleged road rage incident that took place on Sunday, March 5 in Littleton.

Judge J. Elizabeth Cremens ordered the defendant held without bail pending a 58A dangerousness hearing scheduled for Wednesday, March 8.

On Sunday March 5, 2017, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Massachusetts State Police were dispatched to 495 South, in Littleton, for a report of a suspect who had brandished a handgun and fired on a motor vehicle, before striking another motor vehicle and exiting the highway. Upon arrival authorities learned that the defendant had allegedly been driving aggressively in the center lane of the highway. When passing a motor vehicle in the left lane the defendant allegedly brandished a gun and fired at the other vehicle. The occupants of the motor vehicle were not known to the defendant.

State Police located the defendant in Marlborough at an apartment complex where he was arrested. A search of the premises resulted in police allegedly finding ammunition and a firearm in a bush directly underneath a window that had been kicked out of a bedroom in the apartment the defendant had been seen entering on surveillance video.  The firearm allegedly matched the description provided by the individuals in the car that had been fired at.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to this arraignment was Assistant District Attorney Matt Bailey.
