Claudia Casello, 76, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – On Nov. 16, 1963, Claudia Moller, from the Quinsigamond Village neighborhood in Worcester and of Swedish descent, happily married Shrewsbury Street native Joseph Casello in his parish, the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel – St. Ann Church. As a young couple, they mutually agreed after the marriage that their children would be raised in the Lutheran faith and their church was to be Claudia’s, Emanuel Lutheran on Greenwood Street. As a result Joe became very involved in the church where they as family were active members. It is a great story of blended ethnicity, faith and compromise…and it worked. Fifty-three years later, Joe was with Claudia when she died at home peacefully Friday, March 3, 2017. She was 76.

Claudia Moller was born June 12, 1940 in Worcester, a daughter of the late Carl and Hilda (Johnson) Moller. Raised on St. Louis Street by her father and aunt, Anna Carlberg, Claudia was a graduate of Commerce High School with the class of 1958. She later attended UMass – Amherst. She worked as a computer programmer for Norton Company.

Claudia chose to leave work to dedicate her efforts to what she will ultimately be most remembered for. She was an exceptional homemaker and her children and their activities were always central. She was involved in the Leicester Little League, served as a Girl Scout leader, and volunteered at St. John’s High School while her sons were in school. She never missed any opportunity be part of her children’s or grandchildren’s success. Mimi’s last “jobs” included getting her grandchildren off to school or delivering cupcakes to elementary schools. Beyond the immediate family, all of her many nieces and nephews were always excited to visit “Auntie Claud’s” for a swim or to play the card game.

Claudia leaves her husband, Joseph M. Casello; their children, Carol Cavanaugh and her husband John of Shrewsbury, Joseph Casello and his wife Christy McDonald of Brielle, N.J., and Jeffrey Casello and his wife Daria, of Waterloo, Canada; her grandchildren, Caitlin, Emily and Jack Cavanaugh, and Quinn, Delaney and Joseph “Mac” Casello; and a large extended close family on the Casello side. She was a sister of the late Karl Moller.

Family and friends will honored and remembered Claudia’s life by gathering for calling hours March 6 at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury. Her funeral service will be celebrated Tuesday, March 7, at 10 a.m., in Emanuel Lutheran Church, 200 Greenwood St., Worcester. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester.

Donations in Claudia’s memory may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church’s Memorial Fund, 200 Greenwood St., Worcester, MA 01607.
