Marynoel G. Durkin, 87, of Northborough & ShrewsburyNorthborough/Shrewsbury – Marynoel G. (Gubbins) Durkin died peacefully in her sleep Monday, March 13, 2017. Her husband of 65 years, Joseph S. Durkin, predeceased her in 2007.

She leaves behind her four wonderful children, Joseph J. Durkin and his wife Suzanne of Northborough, Kathleen Durkin and her husband Michael A. Borsuk of Boylston, Sean P. Durkin and Michael L. Durkin, both also of Northborough. She also leaves behind her dearly loved grandchildren, Jason and Jesse Rives, Michael and Matthew Borsuk, Sean and Connor Durkin and their mother Jane, Casey and Molly Durkin and their mother Barbara; a brother, Joseph X. Gubbins and his wife Gini of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

Marynoel was born on Christmas Day, 1929 in Oak Park, Ill., the daughter of Joseph X. and Mary (Mullins) Gubbins. She was raised in the Oak Park area and graduated from Trinity High School prior to graduating from St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Ind., graduating in 1951 with her Liberal Arts Degree. While there, she met her husband to be Joseph S. Durkin (University of Notre Dame).

Shortly after their marriage in April 1952 they moved to the Brookfields, Mass. area, where Marynoel stayed home to raise her four children. In 1968, they moved to Northborough, where Marynoel then spent the next 47 years on Pleasant Street until moving to Southgate at Shrewsbury three years ago.

Marynoel was a substitute teacher in the Northborough Public Schools before earning her Real Estate license and working with her son, Michael L., in various offices.

She was a voracious reader, loved to swim, play solitaire, and had a quick wit with a sarcastic sense of humor. Marynoel was proud to be a lifelong Democrat.

Calling hours have been set for Sunday, March 19, from 2 -4 p.m., in the Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Monday, March 20, at 11 a.m., in the St. Rose of Lima Parish, 244 W. Main St., Northborough. Marynoel will then be laid to rest in the Howard Street Cemetery of Northborough.
