Robert W. Downey, 87, of MarlboroughMarlborough – Robert W. Downey, 87, of Marlborough, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017 after being stricken at his home.

Born in Marlborough and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Leo and Louise (Dupuis) Downey. He was the husband of Virginia (Berthiaume) Downey, to whom he had been married for the past 66 years.

A graduate of Assumption High School, Bob had been employed as a service manager, retiring in 1978. Following his retirement, Bob, a “jack of all trades,” opened his own business as a handyman. He was happiest spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. He and his wife, Ginny, especially cherished their special time at their vacation home at Hampton Beach, N.H. He loved to play golf, read, garden, listen to music and putter in and around his home.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Gerald Downey and his wife Dawn of Westborough, Kerry Downey and his wife Charlene of Marlborough, and David Downey and his wife Cathy of Bellingham; his daughters, Paula Donahue and her husband Peter of East Falmouth and Kathy Espirito of Marlborough; his grandchildren, Jasmine Scarpato, Brendan Donahue, Kelan Donahue and his wife Kate, Shawn Downey and his wife Ashley, Ashley Downey Tonelli and her husband Tim, Alex Connor, Jordin Downey, Joey Mullaly, KJ Downey and Nicole Downey; his great-granddaughter, Isabella Downey; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Harold and Laurence Downey.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, March 21, from 4-7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 22, at 10 a.m., at St. Bernadette Church, 22 Main St., Northborough. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough.
