Allen L. Legendre Sr., 87, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – Allen L. Legendre Sr., of Shrewsbury, died Monday, March 27, 2017 in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Northborough after a struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 87.

He was born Dec. 18, 1929 in Worcester, a son of the late Emile C. and Irene (Veroneau) Legendre. A graduate of South High School he also served in the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Janet L. (Werme) Legendre; his sons, Allen L. Legendre Jr. of Hampton, N.H. and Paul D. Legendre and his wife Karen of Charlton; his daughter, Diane L. Sperazza and her husband Salvatore of Westchester, N.Y.; his sister, Jean Kovaleski of Webster; six grandchildren, Renee Moseley, Timothy Legendre, Joseph Legendre, Andrew Legendre, Christopher Legendre, and Michael Legendre; two step-grandchildren Steven and Sean Sperazza; and five great-grandchildren; William and Amanda Moseley, Oliver and Harper Legendre, Mary Kate Legendre.

Allen worked for Massachusetts Electric for 44 years as an underground cable worker, supervisor, and training instructor before retiring.

He enjoyed handball, golfing, skiing, camping, and many other family activities. Upon retirement, he and Janet traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe by land and sea and spent winters in Florida and South Carolina.

The Legendre family extends its sincere thanks to the Alzheimer’s unit staff at Beaumont for the compassionate care that Allen received during his stay.

Allen’s family will gather privately to honor and remember his life in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury. There are no calling hours. Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
