Daniel McDonald, 59, of NorthboroughNorthborough – Daniel “Danny” McDonald, 59, a long-time Northborough resident, passed away peacefully at Shrewsbury Nursing Home Saturday, April 22, 2017 with his devoted wife Donna by his side after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Danny is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Donna (Kasierski) McDonald, and his two children, Jason McDonald and his wife Shannon of Northborough and Tom McDonald and his wife Kim of Northborough. Danny also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Colin, Taegan, Riley, Seamus, and Liam; his devoted brother, Fred McDonald and his wife Barbara; a sister, Debra (McDonald) Neville and her husband Mike; and many other friends and extended family members.

Danny was born Dec. 7, 1957 in Springfield, the son of the late Daniel and Nancy McDonald. Danny attended schools in Southborough and Northborough where he met the love of his life Donna.

Danny retired from Regency Transportation due to his illness, where he worked for many years as a truck driver and Director of Operations.

Danny enjoyed many outdoor activities and was an avid fisherman and weekend golfer. He enjoyed watching sports with his friends and family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Danny was an active member of the Knights of Columbus as well as American Legion Post 234, where he served as a Sons of American Legion officer for many years. Danny also had a strong interest in reading and learning about World War II and the Civil War and visiting battle sites along the east coast.

Most of all, Danny enjoyed spending time with his loving family. Known as “Grampy” to his grandchildren and “Uncle Dan Dan” to his many nieces and nephews, Danny was frequently found at the many family functions playing with the kids. Danny was a devoted family man and will be missed by many.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 26, from 4-7 p.m., at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 27, at 10 a.m., at St Rose of Lima Church, followed by a burial at Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough.
