Westborough – Michael J. Cassata, 86, of Westborough, passed away peacefully Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. He was the husband of Marie M. (Carroll) Cassata.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late John and Josephine (Ceritto) Cassata. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and attended Columbia University and IBEW Trade School.

Mr. Cassata was the superintendent of Lord Electric at the New York Office for many years prior to his retirement.

He was an active member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Westborough. He was also a loyal member of IBEW Local 3 and was an avid Ham Radio operator communicating with people around the world. He was a fan of all his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and enjoyed the arts and culture.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Nancy A. Mercep of Remsenburg, N.Y., Michael J. Cassata Jr. and his wife Juanita of Mashpee, and Rich Cassata and his wife Cindy of Hebron, Conn; one brother, John Cassata of Meriden, Conn.; one sister, Janet McGilvray of Marlborough; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Michael John, Grant, Kevin, Emma, Griffin, Lucas, Nicholas and Gwen; two great-grandchildren, Dresden and Quintin; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Carol Clark.

His funeral service will be held Monday, April 24, at 10 a.m., in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 3 John St., Westborough. Calling hours at the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home were held April 23.
