Shrewsbury – The Walden Woods Project, Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area, University of Massachusetts Lowell Honors College, and Massachusetts Center for the Book are sponsoring the celebration of the 200th birthday of the great American writer and philosopher Henry David Thoreau. The Shrewsbury Public Library, 609 Main St., is also participating in the Thoreau Bicentennial Statewide Read with a number of fun, recreational events in June, including a bus trip to Walden in Concord.

Events include an Introduction to Thoreau’s Transcendentalism Thursday, June 1, from 7-8:30 p.m.; Thoreau, Son of Concord Tuesday, June 13, at 7 p.m.; an Evening with HDT! Thursday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m.; Music Inspired by Thoreau, a drop-in event Wednesday, June 28, from 6:30-8 p.m.; and a bus trip to Walden Pond in Concord Wednesday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
