Catherine A. Burke, 88, of ShrewsburyShrewsbury – Catherine A. “Kate” (McGurn) Burke, 88, of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday May 23, 2017.

Catherine was born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury, daughter of the late James A. and Catherine (McQuaid) McGurn. She graduated from Ascension High School in Worcester.

Catherine leaves her husband and best friend of 62 years, Robert J. Burke; her loving children, Kathleen A. Burke of Manchester, Conn., Roland A. Burke and his wife, Mary Jane of Medway, and James K. Burke of Franklin; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Burke and her husband Hugh of Shrewsbury and Margaret “Peggy” Naleski of Auburn; and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by a son, Robert P. Burke, and a sister, Mary Ann McGurn.

“Kate,” as she was known to her friends and co-workers, had worked in the Treasurer’s office at the Worcester County Court House for many years before she retired. She was a member of Saint Anne’s Parish in Shrewsbury.

Kate loved entertaining and having all the family over for the holidays and family gatherings. Throughout the years, she also enjoyed bowling and being a member of several leagues.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Kate’s family Friday May 26, from 4-7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. Her funeral will be Saturday, May 27, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Tpke., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
