Marlborough – Among the many offerings at the Marlborough Senior Center is a new activity –women’s billiards, also known as “Chicks with Sticks.” The game is gaining in popularity. It is fun, competitive and healthy.
“Most days you can walk into the Senior Center and find several people in the Billiards Room playing a casual game and socializing,” said Lisa Martino, activities director. “It is wonderful to see. For the most part the men are taking advantage of the new tournament-sized tables that we offer but recently we have seen an influx of women who want to get in on the action as well!”
Each round of billiards is uniquely presented and requires players to be mentally agile and physically adept. The casual activity utilizes and tones muscles, helps build focus, enables stretching and balance, sharpens the mind and hones good hand-eye coordination, according to Martino.
She extends an invitation to any woman who may be an avid player or new to the game to consider joining in for socialization and a game of pool. Pool Shark Lester Collette is available for instruction and guidance at the weekly sessions which are held every Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m.
