Marlborough – Joan Viens, 93, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017.
Joan was born in Maynard, the daughter of the late Loretto and Mary (Cuozzo) Arcieri, and was a graduate of Maynard High School, class of 1941.
Joan was the beloved wife to the late Normand “Chippy” Viens of Marlborough, who died on May 13, 2001. The two would settle in Marlborough for almost 40 years.
Joan was an active member of the former Saint Ann’s Church in Marlborough and was a devote Catholic, never missing Mass. She enjoyed extensive traveling to many places near and far with her husband and family, was an avid reader, and was an active member of The Red Hat Society. She also worked at Rich’s Department Store in Marlborough for several years.
Joan had a passion for taking arts and crafts including ceramic classes where she was proud of her staple “hand painted by Joan Viens” inscription on all of her finished ceramic projects. Joan mostly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures of raising a family and spending time with her siblings and their family.
Joan enjoyed participating in crafts, attending concerts, movies, bingo, and gathering with her friends.
She leaves a son, Richard Viens and his wife Christine of Quincy; a daughter, Cynthia Viens-Giovannuccci of Shrewsbury and her husband Randy; two grandchildren, Marissa Viens and Ross Giovannuccci; her brother, Robert Arcieri and sister-in-law Barbara Arcieri of Milford, N.H.; brother-in-law, Jack Alzapiedis of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Mary Arcieri, and her beloved two brothers, Tony and Eddie Arcieri.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Great Road, Maynard.
