Marlborough – Douglas S. Reid Sr., 85, of Marlborough, formerly of Framingham, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, surrounded by family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Johnson) Reid for the past 63 years.
A devoted father, he leaves behind his children, Doug Reid Jr., his wife Cotty and their children, Jennifer, Phil, Brian, Linda Coleman and her husband Josiah and their children Faith and Aaron; Sue Woundy, her husband Paul and their children Stephen and Lynne Cutaiar and her husband Brian and their daughters Leah and Emma; Rich Reid, his wife Karen and their children Mandy and Lucy; Cindy Dorsey and her children Kevin and David; Dorey Maioriello, her husband Len and their children Nicolle and Jimmy; and a daughter-in-law, Betsy Reid, her children Dan, Meghan, and Melissa. He was predeceased by his son, William.
Doug grew up in West Hartford, Conn. and was a graduate of Loomis Prep School and Bowdoin College. While at Bowdoin, he was a soloist in the Glee Club, worked at the campus radio station WBOA, and was a member of CHI PSI fraternity. After college, he married his bride, Dorothy, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army.
After serving in the Army, he and his family settled in Connecticut, where Doug began a career in telecommunications. He was an early adopter of computer technology with a successful career which led to a move to Massachusetts. Doug soon started his own consulting firm which he ran until he retired. In retirement Doug used his many skills while working at Home Depot where he enjoyed meeting and talking to new people every day.
Doug was an avid golfer and always treasured his time at Hawk’s Nest Beach in Connecticut with his family, and he especially enjoyed boating. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Doug’s smile was widest when he was with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wit, humor, kindness, and gentle caring way is already missed, but his example will never end.
A funeral Mass was held Oct. 8 at St. Anne Church of Southborough. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
