Westborough – We the People Massachusetts, a bipartisan organization, will be hosting an evening of education and action about campaign finance reform Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 7-8:30 p.m., at Tatnuck Booksellers, 18 Lyman St. All are welcome to attend a presentation of “Fix Our Broken Democracy,” which will address the rise of corporate power in the United States and the myriad ways that unlimited campaign spending impacts U.S. citizens.

We The People delves deeply into the history of corporations, illuminating interesting issues like the misuse of the 14th Amendment, meant to protect freed African American slaves, but used instead to enhance the rights of corporations. The term, “overturning Citizens United,” will be explained, as will the current push for a 28th constitutional amendment.  In 2013, U.S. Rep. James McGovern, remarked “…years have passed since the Supreme Court’s dreadful Citizens United decision, and we have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of corporate money flowing into our elections, drowning out the voices of ordinary American citizens…”

Following the presentation, David Rogers of People Govern Not Money will be on hand to discuss their current Massachusetts state ballot initiative and how interested people can get involved.
