Region – The weather held out on Oct. 15 for over 300 runners participating in the 2nd Mary Beth Benison (MBB) Foundation 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run.  The foundation uses the MBBF 5k as a way to honor the late Mary Beth Benison, a Northborough resident who passed away from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2015 and another individual from Central Massachusetts who is living with ALS or who has passed away from ALS. This year’s race was in memory of Maryellen Standring who lived in Holden and passed away from ALS in 2014.

The primary mission of the MBB foundation is to provide financial assistance to ALS patients and families. In addition, financial assistance is provided to people with cancer and other serious illnesses as well as supporting and partnering with charities close to Mary Beth’s heart.

Proceeds raised at the MBBF 5K Run Walk and Fun Run are used to help reduce the financial burden for patients and their families. Grants typically provide assistance for things such as the purchase of medical equipment not covered by insurance, payment of a household bill (electric, heat (gas/oil), rent/mortgage), car payment or to contributing towards a dream vacation for a patient with a terminal illness.

Central One Federal Credit Union is proud to be a sponsor of the 5k Run/Walk and accepts donations for the Mary Beth Benison Foundation at any Central One Federal Credit Union branch.
