James R. Duca, 72, of MarlboroughMarlborough – James R. Duca, 72, formerly of Marlborough, died suddenly Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 after being stricken at his home in Florida.

Born in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Joseph “Papa Joe” and Evelyn (Taubner) Duca, and the husband of Mary (Ricciuti) Duca of Dennis Port and Boynton Beach, Fla.

Besides his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, he is survived by his daughters, Gina Klay of Ashland and Heather Duca and her partner, Levon Gulbankian; his brothers, Joseph and his wife, Lorraine “Dolly” Duca and Paul and his wife, Debbie Duca, all of Marlborough; and his five granddaughters, Makenna, Evelyn, Natalie, Jorden, and Violet. He was predeceased by his grandson, Jace. Jim also has many loving nieces, nephews, along with members of his wife’s family that he was very close with.

Jim was recently retired from his Senior Analyst job and was thoroughly enjoying his time with family and friends at the Cape and in Florida. He especially enjoyed his time on the ocean captaining his boat “Endless Summer.” Jim was a hard worker all of his life and was enjoying the fruits of his labors. He was a jack of all trades and renovated countless properties with his many skills.

While a Marlborough resident, Jim was a member of the Sons of Italy. He also served as an interim City Councilor at Large following the death of his father, Joe. He recently joined the Orleans-Eastham Elks volunteering at their popular Friday fish frys.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 5, from 2-5 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 6, at 10 a.m., at St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough.
