Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Coalition for Addiction Prevention & Education (SCAPE) will host nationally-renowned speaker and expert Dr. Ruth Potee, who will discuss brain development and teen risk taking, including alcohol and substance use Thursday, Nov. 16 at Shrewsbury High School, 64 Holden St., Shrewsbury. The event will begin with information tables in the school’s common area at 6 p.m., followed by Potee’s presentation from 7-8:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Sponsored by State Rep. Hannah Kane (R – Shrewsbury), this event will focus on the latest medical research on the developing brain and is for anyone in the community, particularly parents and educators of school-age children from elementary to post high school. High school students are encouraged to attend as well.
Potee is an award-winning, board certified family and addiction specialist. She will share relevant information regarding brain development, chemistry, who is at risk and the role that genetics, stress and trauma plays in addiction and substance misuse. She will also share prevention and treatment options. Potee chairs the Healthcare Solutions Opioid Task Force of Franklin County.
