Local towns need a ‘collector’ for the collector

Region – worried that an already troubling problem could get more out of hand, Westborough Teasurer/ Collecter Joan Savignac had a legal advertisement published recently seeking help in collecting unpaid personal property taxes from local businesses. The amount of unpaid personal property taxes, which cover moveable items such as office equipment and furniture, has steadily increased over the past few years, from $3,400 in 2006, to almost $12,000 in 2007 and nearly $13,000 in 2008. Other local town collection departments report the same problems
