Mitrakas honored by Marlborough Lions Club

Marlborough – Gregory Mitrakas Sr. was the recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Award for “exhibiting exemplary dedication to the cause of Lions” at the June 26 annual installation meeting. The award, named after Melvin Jones, founder of the Lions in Chicago in 1917, was given to Mitrakas for sponsoring the annual Father-Daughter Dance for the past 16 years.

For this young man, who just graduated from Westborough High School, there is one place that has been a favorite over the years. It's not a popular chain restaurant or fast food option that he enjoys time and time again – it's Westborough's South Street Diner.

Shrewsbury man turns adversity into aid for the library

Shrewsbury – Back in 1997, Shrewsbury resident Dean Gillam was saddled with the diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The condition forced him to stop working, and it took two years before he started having periodic hours in his day where he felt strength enough to focus on doing something, anything.

Southborough resident Alexandra “Lexi” Ryan, now age 15, began learning about musical theater when she auditioned for the Southborough Players production of “The Wizard of Oz” at 5 years old.

Hudson camp debuts Serving More Kids program

Shirley M. Kane, a dedicated equestrian who served the Massachusetts 4-H Foundation for twenty-eight years, will be honored with the Save More Kids program at Pompositticut Farm Day Camp.

Hudson – For Jackie Kane, owner and director of Hudson's Pompositticut Farm Day Camp, life (and work) on the farm is second nature. The camp sits on 60 acres of land purchased by her father, Roger, in 1965. It was here that Roger and his wife, Shirley, raised their 6 children – along with polled Hereford cattle, Suffolk sheep, chickens and horses. In addition, the farm has been acknowledged as a Massachusetts Horse Farm of Distinction, hosting thirty-six camp owned horses.
