Locally renowned artist reaches out to all artists to join free workshops

Region – Locally renowned artist Sid Solomon is an integral part of a thriving community of artists in Worcester and neighboring communities. Since 1980, Solomon has nurtured his art in his home studio in Worcester. Although a modest individual, Solomon’s studio is anything but, as it contains an impressive collection of his works which range from sketches and portraits to landscapes.

Hudson memorial 5K to benefit Brain Injury Association

Hudson – On Dec. 9, 2016, John Deane suffered a fall near his family’s Hudson home, which caused brain injuries and left him in a coma. He passed away 10 days later at age 54, leaving his wife, Meg, and their four children. Her close friends and family have organized a memorial 5K run and walk titled John’s Sea of Green to benefit the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts.

Marlborough saxophonists play at Newport Jazz Festival

Marlborough – Saxophonists Justin Bartlett and Matthew Pearl of Marlborough earned an impressive credit for their resumes. They performed at this year’s 63rd annual Newport Jazz Festival with the Massachusetts Music Educators’ Association (MMEA) All-State Jazz Band. Bartlett is a 2017 Marlborough High School (MHS) graduate, entering his freshman year as a jazz studies major at Temple University in Philadelphia. Pearl is beginning his junior year at MHS.

Local performer returns to Connecticut Renaissance Faire

Marlborough/Southborough – Dave Morrow of Marlborough is a former Southborough resident transplanted from Brookfield, Conn., who is now commuting weekends back to his home state. He’s performing a six-weekend run at the 19th annual Connecticut Renaissance Faire (CRF) on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 9.

Two Southborough Scouts earn Silver Award

Southborough – Avery Barnes and Raiya Sehgal-Sealey from Girl Scout Troop 72780 of Southborough have earned their Silver Award. The Silver Award is the second highest award of the Girl Scouts of America, and the highest award that a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. 

Nominations sought for BayPath Elder Services’ community service award

Marlborough – BayPath Elder Services is inviting nominations for the 10th annual Frances Borger Klempner Community Service Award. This memorial award will be given to an individual who has contributed at the local community level and exemplifies a spirit of civic engagement, community involvement and support of elders.

Ward Park Pickleball athletes compete in Senior Olympic games

Region – The Fore Kicks Sports Complex was the host site for the 2017 Massachusetts Senior Olympic Games for Pickleball held Aug. 18–20. Athletes from all over New England ages 40 to 87 participated in the games.

Local theater troupe performs at world’s largest arts festival

Marlborough – When the Ghost Light Players presented William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” in April 2016 at the First Church in Marlborough, its director Kat Alix-Gaudreau wished that the show’s run could get extended. She got her wish – over a year later. The Marlborough-based community theater group reprised its production of “Hamlet” from Aug. 7 to 11 at the 70th anniversary of the famed Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland.

Shrewsbury woman raises Alzheimer’s Awareness

Shrewsbury – Gina Tiberio Hamilton of Shrewsbury will participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Worcester Walk to End Alzheimer’s Sunday, Sept. 24, at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester.
