Ashland: Doc Film & Discussion series examines evolution science

October 22, 2013

| Free

The Documentary Film & Discussion Series will show Understanding Evolution Science: Gene Flow and Genetic Drift (57 min) Oct. 22, from 7 – 9 p.m., in the Ashland Public Library Community Room, 66 Front St. Admission is free, and viewers are invited to stay for discussion. The Documentary Film & Discussion Series is sponsored by The Friends of the Ashland Library.

Understanding Evolution Science: Gene Flow and Genetic Drift examines some of the mechanisms or processes of evolution – in particular, the concepts of gene flow and genetic drift. Gene flow is the movement of genes from one population to another. Gene flow can be caused by many events such as pollen drift. Adaptation is also examined. Adaptation is a feature in some population that provides an improved function. Adaptation is produced through natural selection.

The Documentary Film & Discussion Series meets every 2nd Thursday and 4th Tuesday of the month for an in-depth look at important topics of our day. The moderated discussions are often lively and thought provoking. All points of view are welcomed.
