Northborough: Author Katherine Bouton to speak at Free Library

November 9, 2013

Free and open to the public

“Shouting Won’t Help: Why I – and 50 Million Other Americans – Can’t Hear You” will be presented by author Katherine Bouton Nov. 9, from 1:30 – 3 p.m., in the meeting room at Northborough Free Library, 34 Main St.

Bouton, a former editor at the New York Times, left her job after she increasingly couldn’t hear what her colleagues were saying, despite her denials of a problem. By the end of 2008, she was profoundly deaf in her left ear and had a severe hearing loss in the right. Her best-selling book tells the story of her loss and recovery, unravels the confusion about hearing aids, and describes her experience with a cochlear implant.

She will be reading from her book and engaging in a discussion with the audience. Sponsored by the Hearing Loss Association of Central MA, the event is free and open to the public.
