Region – Potential members of Assabet Valley Mastersingers (AVM) will be welcomed at open rehearsals Monday, Aug. 29; Tuesday, Sept. 6; and Monday, Sept. 12. Rehearsal times for these dates and all regular Monday practices to follow will be from 7:30 – 9:45 p.m. at Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St., in Northborough.

Preparation will begin for the first concert “The Time Has Come for Peace” Sunday, Nov. 13, featuring Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man”: A Mass for Peace” with orchestra and AVM chorus conducted by Dr. Robert P. Eaton with the Algonquin Regional High School Chorus, Kathrine Waters, director.

On Sunday, Dec. 18, AVM will hold a “Messiah” Sing with audience participation. Other scheduled AVM concerts include: “The Poet Sings,” featuring some of the world’s great poems set to music and song, Sunday, March 19; and “Mass in Time of War & Light Eternal,” Saturday, May 13.

In the past three and a half decades the 75-member AVM chorus, directed by founder Robert P. Eaton, has gained a reputation for musical excellence and unusual programs. For those who enjoy a cappella singing in a small group there is the opportunity for participation in the Chambersingers, a community outreach ensemble. In addition AVM offers an Apprentice Singers Program to talented and motivated high school choral students at no cost to them.

Further information may be obtained by calling 508-869-0438 or 978-562-9838 or at www.AVMsingers.org. Partial support for concerts has been provided by the Massachusetts Cultural Council through local arts councils.
