The Northboro Hash House Harriers running club is inviting new runners and walkers of both sexes to participate in the Red Dress Run Sept. 29, from 2 – 6 p.m. It is open to adults over 21 and begins at Zem Han, 4 West Main St., Northborough. There is a $20 charge for the run, which includes the tickets for beers at each stop along the route. A portion of the food and drink ticket proceeds will be donated to local charities.

The Red Dress Run is not a race. There are no timers, and the distance is unknown, but will probably be about 3 miles. Participants will follow the path of lead runners who will mark a spontaneous course with flour and chalk. The course leads to checkpoints where all the runners will stop, take a drink, and socialize.

The Red Dress Run honors a club member who attended her first Hash while wearing a red dress, instead of running clothes. After being mocked for wearing that, she ran anyway. Other Hashers of both sexes began wearing a red dress as a joke, and soon the Red Dress Run became an annual tradition around the world. Men and women are invited to wear a comfortable red dress, and have some serious fun and exercise.
