April 28, at 1 p.m., Craig Hotchkiss, from the Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, Conn., will be speaking at the Shrewsbury Public Library, 609 Main St. Hotchkiss will provide the audience an opportunity to learn what motivated Mark Twain to write two such distinct stories, and to see how both the joy and tragedy of Samuel Clemens’ own maturation as a businessman, husband, father and writer spurred him to pen perhaps his two most popular books. Free, and recommended for adults and high school students. Call 508-841-0082 or visit www.shrewsbury-ma.gov/library for more details about this or any of the Big Read events in May.
