Shrewsbury: Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival

October 6, 2012

Please join the Shrewsbury Public Library, 609 Main St., for a traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Cake Festival, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. There will be a dance performance by students of the Beijing Chinese Language School, Worcester. Then there will be a demonstration by Peiliang Zhang of the Chinese violin, called erhu and Chinese calligraphy. Guests will also be able to sample the traditional moon cake. There will also be a martial arts demo by students of the New England Karate Academy. The most thrilling act of the morning promises to be that by Yang Shuwang, a professional “face change” expert. “Face changing” is considered to be a magical activity as the performer rapidly changes beautifully painted face masks.
