Shrewsbury: Historical Society presents “Peddling Your Wares”

March 27, 2013

The Shrewsbury Historical Society at the 1830 Brick Schoolhouse will present “Peddling Your Wares: A Look at Itinerant Merchants in Early 19th Century New England” March 27, at 7 p.m. Speaker: Tom Kelleher. In the 1800s, thousands of traveling salesmen brought goods from around the world to the homes of farm families, as part of a growing consumer revolution. They also brought news, stories and conversation to people who were not instantly tied to the outside world by television and the internet as we are today. This interesting program also includes a dramatic encounter with a historically costumed peddler. Free and open to the public.
